Round 13 - South v WWT

Post by Choaty on Thu Jun 23, 2011 7:26 pm

Blergh!!! What a long bloody week....
Back at home this round, hate to fall into the comfort zone of a home game, but anything to help us grab another 2pts right now, I'll take!
Some interesting additions:

F: Cockshell Wundke McKay
HF: Brown Talia McLeod
C: Carey Daniel Cook
HB: Stribling Thewlis Cross
B: Horne Crabb Sandery
Foll: Bass Murphy Liddle
Int: Brooksby Rolfe Ainger Redigolo Richman

Anyone know anything about Tyson Brown from Cove?

Their tall forwards could be a handful. Perhaps Ainger to play as an extra tall defender.

Bass rewarded for some good form in the 2s.

Can't say I know much about Brown. "Rangy 18yo wingman" according to last week's ressies review.

Mackay to add some class, although will obviously be rusty. Will be interesting to see what the crows do with their final 22 tomorrow.

Yep Mackay adds class with rewards for efforts particularly Bass.

Competition for spots is getting better, and side looks good, although their line up is pretty good too.

Comes back to attitude - continue that first half effort from last week plus the form we've shown at home this year and we're a real show.

We really need to prove something to the comp and ourselves and gain respect - we've done okay against them recently they won't take us lightly.
Go you Panthers

Good to see Bass getting his chance. Mackay although well short in match fitness will still be good for us. Even Mckernan would still be a chance to play for us!
I really hope to see a massive turn around from last weekends insipid second half of football.
Only we can control how well we play, it matters not the team we are playing!
Due to a lovely dose of influenza I wont be at the game, but watching on the box instead!

Need something out of Cockshell (half a dozen good grabs and a couple of goals would be nice). Has really struggled this season to have an impact around the ground.

Maybe if Cockshell was given a permanent position of say CHF and remain there for the whole game, say for 5 matches, then I believe we will start and continue to get the best out of him.

The so called modern day football is ruining some players, whilst others are more suited to coming on and off the ground after short bursts.

Good Call Prowler! With Bass in the side Brooksby has support in the ruck.

Fingers crossed for a win at home today...

South 14-10 (94)
Eagles 11-13 (79)

Fair effort from South, they threw everything they had at us, including heabutting Brooksby to try and take him out of the game and it still didnt work, hope he gets at least 6 weeks over it. Evil or Very Mad

Wundke continues his good form, Nathan Daniel was pretty handy and Brown looks like he has what it takes to play at this level.

Great win by the boys!!

4 quarters too!!!

Good to stick it up Parry - it was a low and a "dog" act to headbutt a player.

Get down to Alberton to cheer them on next week....a real fight for the 5!!! Very Happy

great win. Warmed the cockles of this old Panther heart I can tell you.
great effort from all players today liked the look of Cocky up forward, always looked dangerous and provided a contest which brought our smalls into the game. Cross Liddle and Stibling were fantastic and were everywhere , our defence was great also and we had good games from Talia and Cook as well.

We Still have O'Keefe and Crate to come back into the mix, looks as though Mackay may be with us for another week or two yet as well. The future looks bright but we have a return bout with the magpies at Alberton- again ,this week...? We really need to carry on with the 4 quarter efforts on a consistent basis week in week out and what better way than an away win against Port.
Very Happy

Have to say, that was a better performance this week, got the start we wanted and did not let up for the rest of the day. As last week we gave the players a bake, they certainly made us eat humble pie this week, and we were humbled.

Selection looked better this week with Cocky at CHF, Rolfey given a chance to play on the ground instead of having to try for contested marks against taller players, Bass coming into the ruck to support Brooksby, Thewlis at CHB, and Daniel, Cross, Stribling, Cooke, Liddle, Wundke as well as the two youngsters in Richman, and Brownie, the balance was pretty right.

Next week it is down to Alberton again, this time with confidence right up this will be the match of the round.

We broke 3 hoodoos today, with 3 wins, the League, the Reserves and a televised game. Now to sit down and watch it all over again on the replay.

What a ripper the 2's get up & then a great effort by our league boys gets us over the line. I thought it was a terrific team effort with desperate attiude to keep the pressure on and not fall away as we have previously.
Good to see Cocky making his presence felt at CHF and Bass in the ruck, Stribling Cross & Liddle's inspiration, Rolfe skills with room to move and the new skinny kid Brown - wow. We didn't even play a loose man against the wind - I even started to feel comfortable before the siren !
Now we're seeing a little light ...

Interesting comment from Ron Fuller in the Sunday Mail today, could not more agree!

"Fuller refused to post a loose man in defence in the final quarter despite the wind and backed his personnel to get the job done.
It is the best way - to keep attacking. Fuller said. It puts more pressure on the opposition - kicking goals. We were one on one football and backing ourselves to beat our opponent.
All over the ground, if we do that we hold the balance of power."

Its the best way to play football, always has been and always will be, let the other mob over the border have modern football, we can have the tried and tested model.

Cant tell you how pleased I was to read this. The coach in deciding to go with this tactic really put it back on the players to bore in and beat their individual opponent one on one in every contest, against the wind. Leaving the team the chance to run and score into the wind , which to their credit they did.
What a breath of fresh air to see a coach go down this path. Well done Ron. Very Happy

Yep that's better, just what supporters love to see, 4 quarter committed effort taking no backward steps, regardless of the result when your team plays like that you're bursting with pride and when the team deservably gets the win you just explode! Very Happy

Excellent result in the ressies, well done lads, putting presure on the league team to perform is what makes a strong club stronger. Now to knock off another hoodoo, 2 wins in row both TV games, play attacking fierce team 4 quarter footy and we're in with a real chance.

Good...deserved it and would be lucky not to get more.

Head butting starts at 4 as far as I am concerned.

Always had a lot of time for Parry.

He has fallen, not slipped from my esteem of him.

Considering the current focus on Concussions and what has happened to Stevens from the Crows, three matches is heading towards the light side of a fair penalty. Headbutting is hardly an accident.
