Tough match but if this seasons encounters are anything to go by it should be an absorbing contest. I still think we have more in the tank and certain players can play even better than they did against the bays.
Beating the bays at AAMI stadium in a final will only lift the confidence in the playing group. Lets lift again south and give the Eagles a good dose of hard running football!

Richman would be a reasonable replacement for Mitch? Smaller defender type. Thewlis hard to replace though.

We'll miss both Josh and Mitch but isn't it good we have a selection of players who are league ready to step in. In spite of the ressies coming last there are players in that group who can and will play long term league footy for our club and two more can now cover themselves in glory when presented with this challenge.

cheers yes I'm as toey as a roman sandal!!!

We will certainly be stretching our depth this week and will certainly miss Josh and Mitch and their experience and toughness.Leonard/Turner and richman will get a chance to make a name for themselves and Crabby has a big task nullifying Grockes influence. We will really need our midfield to play well and get us some drive but they will really have to work hard to get back and help out.
. I have got to say our fwd line is looking really good- Wundke,Ainger, Rolfe,Daniel and Cocky(who is due for a big one) look very dangerous if they can get enough of it.

I'm not as confident as last week but the boys are on a bit of a roll.

Definately could get used to it... I'll be bringing my 3 year old - he's already pulled his guernsey out in anticipation! Who is more excited here? Him or me?!

Yep. Not much else to say. Bitterly disappointing way to finish up. Felt the game was there for the taking in the 3rd term, but some bad errors in defence swung momentum and we were steam-rolled.

Im like all south supporters gutted to be within 5 points early in the 3 quater to get beaten by 70 points just cant beleive it hate to say it Parry killed us in ruck) probally through out whole game Eagles got it out of the centre square about 70 percent of the time and thats our normal strengh with our onballers, I really hope we can keep all our recruits for next year with the right couple of recruits for next year I think we can only improve

Disappointing end.

From the word go at the start of the game I knew we were in big trouble. Did not seem as switched on this week. The Eagles definately did their homework and kept our on ball players quiet. I thought Cross and Stribling had a quiet game. I actually was not sure if Stribling was 100% fit.
Some of out decision making was pretty average. Handballing to a teammate when they are under pressure causing turnovers. Credit to the Eagles they kept playing man on man football.
We really missed Thewlis down back today and this threw out some of our structures.

I really wanted to say how proud I am of our football club. We were written off at the start of the year by media critics and other supporters to win a few games but finish bottom. We kept our heads down and had belief and made some people in the papers and on other football sites eat their words
It was wonderful to see so many South supporters out there today and looking at the crowd I felt we actually outnumbered the Eagles supporters. The band wagon well and truly rolled up!!!

Us Southee's need to stick together and look at the task ahead as I seriously believe this is only the beginning of something special very soon for our beloved football club.

We will learn from today.

Think the point made about the Ruck is correct weight, Bass as a Port Power listed player has done well in his development but the club has little option but to target a decent ruckman as a priority in the off season, winning at least 50% of the taps each week would lift our side considerably.

A very disappointing end to the season.
Whilst the loss was disappointing I think most of us were more disappointed by the way we seemed to fold in the second half of todays game.

I think that there are a few interesting things to take note of when we consider the game today..

A. Jai Beadnells article in todays Sunday mail, was well .....,most untimely; and from what I understand .."a beat up".
B. We went into the todays game with surely the youngest and most inexperienced team to play a final in the history of the sanfl
C. Injury robbed us of so much talent it is unbelievable..!! in my humble opinion if fit, Crate, Thewlis, Veide, Sandery, O'Keefe, Cook, Talia and McKernan would have all been available.

we just lacked experience and poise under pressure, and the ability to step up a gear when the opposition takes the initiative. Experience however is a great educator and the experience gained by our young group in the last 2 weeks cannot be underestimated. They will learn from todays disappointment, and when presented with a similar situation -hopefully at the same time next year!- will call on this experience and perform better under pressure.

What do we need to take the next step next year..?
We need to retain the players who have got us to this level and ensure that they are committed for next year and beyond. If as rumoured some want to return to melbourne , fine, get rid of them if they dont want to be here, that will free up a bit more coin and get replacements to fill our deficiencies. We need a CHB desperately, and a bit more overall height and strength in defence. Another Ruckman would be handy and a rough and tough midfielder as well.
Pretty confident about the future but we must keep moving forward and anything less than finals next year will be viewed as a disappointment. Cool
