you would think there will be a few changes. Irra apparently misses the next 4 weeks on AIS duty, Thewlis will definitely come back in.

Liked the prospects of Cameron DeVisser, Tarquin Brown and Tom McNamara in the ressies all showed they aren't far off league footy, strong bodies hard at the ball.
Heard a rumour that a player from last year who left may be returning, anyone know more?

Will undoubtedly be at Prospect this week but am really hoping for a much better effort than we witnessed on Saturday night.
I agree that some of the newbies in the 2's looked very promising and we need some more size, especially in defence- gee we missed Josh Thewlis.!

darls re your rumour, please tell more...!

How did Ky Miller go. Read he kicked 4 including a 50 metre torp on the run to put us in front. But no best players for him?

He's got a week or two left of a suspension to serve from memory, if the rumour is true.

Would be handy to have back. Always rated him as a solid contributer. (

Weasel, Ky was good, kicked 2 wonderful goals in last 1/4 that sealed the win, his torp on the run from 50m was classic stuff! Dropped in and out of the game overall however his last 1/4 was excellent. Should play league at some stage this year just needs to work on consistancy throughout 4 quarters, keeping in mind it was his first game.
Come home Mitch we miss ya! Hey Turns, how is James going, any chance of his return, we miss him too.

McNamra did receive some one on one coaching from Ron and he got better as the game went on. Might come in.

Thewlis is a must. Irra whilst not available for four weeks is not up to league football yet. Same for Dowdell. A lot to learn. Let him. One touch all night for Leonard says arrive earlier Saturday.

De Visser plays hard committed football which shows to me that he wants to play winning league football. Might come in.

Miller kicks goals. Hello. He is probably never going to be the most disciplined (probably laconic) but goalkickers as we found last week are hard to find.

So for me, out Dowdell, Irra, Leonard. In De Visser, Thewlis, Miller

Welcome home Mitch Sandery, great news he's playing in the ressies this week. Always liked the way Mitch plays the game, a welcome return to the defence, not too sure if Xavier Watson will give him back the number 11 jumper Very Happy

More to the point. Side looks a lot better with McKernan. Four quarters of totally committed football and nothing less. Hope Josh gets through. He gives the backline far more depth.

Does look a better team on paper. Need one of McKernan or Ainger to kick 4 or 5. Nice weather for a tall man to have a day out tomorrow. Hopefully Allen doesn't get his customary 40 touches and 3 goals like he often does against us.
Good luck to the debutants.

Will be interesting to see what the 18 who take the field and positions they play. I have a feeling that we may have to play musicals during the day to plug a few gaps, Not really the right way to start off the season.

Lets hope I am wrong.

Final Score
South 18. 11 119
North 15. 14 104

Big turn around from last week; Couldn't get to the game, but obviously inclusions of Josh Thewlis & McKernan improved our structure.
Great individual performance by Ainger kicking 7 goals.
Pumped....great win against the odds in the last quarter.

Good four quarter effort and work rate today by the boys. Danger Ainger showed the way with his 7 goals, Bass and Brooksby and McKernan when on the ball gave us advantages, Liddle as usual was effective around the packs, Thewlis was a welcome return to the back lines although he showed he needs more game time to return to what we know he can do, Captain Murph again was cool when he had posession of the ball, Stribling gave us great thrust into the forward lines, all our new recruits wont take too many games for things to fall into place.

Am I happy.

You betcha!

Finished well today and capitalized when North were undisciplined in the last 1/4. Nice to ditch the Prospect hoodoo, and notch two points up on the table. Well done today lads! Bring on Good Friday football!

The making of of good team is winning the close ones. South lifted all over the ground in the last 1/4 to win in a great TEAM effort! Well done lads!

Reserves didn't get up. Sandery got through but sounds like he'll be after a few more games in the 2s before he gets the chance to break the league side. Has taken OKeefe's old #5 jumper, perhaps spelling out his fate at the club?

Against the wind in the last 1/4 and on Prospect Oval a ground we have struggled at in the past, it was a good away win for the club especially after last week.

Ainger played a blinder and its interesting to see how a lad can just quietly go about it on the back burner then put together a match winning game for the club seemingly out of nowhere. He has been a good recruit for the club and I hope he goes on with it from here this season!

Liked the way we are going about it with our lads seemingly playing the team game as opposed to kicking to individuals as North did today. Yes we made some skill errors, yet the way we roved and hunted the ball in and around the packs and in several cases moved the ball forward over the pack onto the chest of our forward line players was very encouraging. Into the breeze in the last 1/4 I felt that our side showed superior fitness and ran the Roosters ragged when it counted.

Will be very interesting to hear Ron's contrast on this week to last week, should make for an interesting read!
