Panthers 2013 Backline

Post by Panther Pack on Wed Sep 26, 2012 7:12 pm

Thought the Backline was our weakest link this season with only Crabb and Redigolo consistenly playing in the back 6. My backline for next season would consist of Crabb, Redigolo, McNamara (if he can keep fit I think he could be a good player) Thewlis (was 2011 advertiser team of year in Backline) Miller ( liked his run and hope fuller plays him in Backline next year) & obviously new recruit for CHB which was a big issue this year.

So Backline would look like this.

Redigolo Crabb McNamara
Miller New Recruit Thewlis

Would love to know what other Panthers fans think for the Backline next year.

Yeah , no bad. I think McNamara's turn overs and disposals are pretty average for an ex AFL player. Could be a worry.

Definately need a tall CHB that has proven himself in a higher league or this league.

Backline really let us down this year. Not all their fault but it was the weakest link in the side.

I think Ky running off the half back line is a good spot for him, has the ability to be an absolute game breaker at his best, and turn an opposition forward into a defensive player...

our backline was our weakest link but it kept us in some close matches when we had 20 odd less inside 50s and then we were able to be very efficient going forward.

i thought it did a better job than the last 2 years.

I think you've got it pretty much spot on. Need another G. Bennett Smile

Gotch and Crate would be the back-up smaller defenders, while hopefully Casley shows a bit next season. Veide another mid-sized back.

We were lucky to see so much of Otten this season.

Can I suggest Bass - as an option for CHB.
With Brooksby and Dowdell in ruck Bassy could give us the height and develop as a key position player.

Like your thoughts Panthers64, maybe not quick or agile enough but worth a try, big fan of Dee Bass. Rumour has it we have spoken to Magpies backman Kory Beard, good size and would be a good get.

Our backline was a huge problem this year, but also would like to mention that houlihan had a terrible season. I would rather have McNamara than houlihan. Houlihan would be our turnover king for sure.

Kory Beard would be a great get he would be perfect as our Centre Half Back hope the club can get him. Reckon D Bass played centre half back in the finals last year and he did alright but I wouldn't want to lose his competitiveness in the middle. Just a thought regarding Houlihan could we use him as a tagger???? He seems to have a big tank so would be able to run with the likes of Boyd & Ty Allen.

How about Andrew Ainger ay CHB ?? I know we tried it out when he first came over.

Could work again if we signed another forward up.

Only shooting off ideas here.
