Sad news for Tim:

Head injury sees Houlihan retire

Tuesday 26th February

The South Adelaide Football Club advises that a head injury has seen Tim Houlihan decide to retire from football. Tim suffered a concussion during the Panthers final round game in 2012. An MRI following that concussion found evidence of a head trauma suffered before his time at The South Adelaide Football Club.

Based on this evidence and the long and short term health risks this may pose by continuing to play a contact sport Tim has decided to retire from the game. South Adelaide Football Manager Neill Sharpe said Tim is clearly disappointed to finish his playing career at 24. “Tim enjoys playing the game and it has been a significant part of his life. However, he also feels fortunate that he has been able to make a decision before it is too late. The South Adelaide Football Club and The AFL Players Association have supported Tim through the process enabling him to come to his decision.

Houlihan joined the Panthers in 2012 and played 19 SANFL League matches. He joined the Club from the West Coast Eagles where he managed 15 AFL games after being drafted from North Ballarat in 2006.
