Sturt result

Post by BlackPanther on Sat Jul 06, 2013 6:38 pm

Not a pretty game to watch but a gritty win and most pleasing that the only three shots at goal in time on were ours. Liddell was outstanding and is back to his best. Although we got killed in the rucks our pressure on the opposition was pretty good all day. Not often you win a league game of footy only kicking 6 goals!

SOUTH: 6.7 - 43 defeated
STURT: 5.8 - 38
Great goal by Wundke in the last minute of the game to seal the deal!!

And in an emerging trend South Adelaide also won the Reserves,

SOUTH: 9.10 - 64 defeated
STURT: 8.7 - 55

How do you like those apples? Smile

A good hard working win is what was needed to get the boys up and performing, let us get behind them now and back them in.

I stayed away today on purpose, I was rapidly getting disillusioned with some of our last efforts, maybe we have turned the corner and if the competitive spirit returns, so will I.

From my SA Footy post :

Not the prettiest game to watch but a nice result for us in the end.

We were saved by a great start by kicking the first 4 goals.....Wundke with 3 of them.
Hinge was moved to stand him in the 2nd quarter and did a fine job keeping him goalless. (Until the winning goal at the end)

It was just the old wet weather footy being played. South let Sturt come back into the game which was a concern as South's next goal was not until about the 10 minute mark of the last quarter.

With Sturt being 2 points up in the dying stages of the last quarter, Ziggy missed a pretty easy shot. 1 point ball game.

With a minute to go, Wundke performed a fine tackle on Hinge (I think) to get a holding the ball decision. The Sturt supporters around me went off like animals in a zoo! I thought with Wunks being about 45 metres out and on a 45 degree angle it would be a draw. A wonderful text book kick performed by the great man sealed a 5 point victory. Ball went back and 30 seconds latter siren went and I did my happy dance.

Sturt supporters not happy with the umps and alot raced down the race to make sure they knew about it too. (And a few comments to the players too)

Liddle, Wunks, Redigolo, Ah Chee (his best game since joining this year), Gotch my best.

A nice win but still a long way to go.

Stribling and Pfeiffer leaving might have been a more positive thing then I first thought !!

Central out at Elizabeth will be our test.

Great win in a scrap in the wet!
Good to see fight and spirit which was absent recently!
Liddle was excellent today as was Wundke. Tom Fields played his best game for us and was very good. He has a great kick on him and he is definitely one to watch for the future.
Darcy Hourigan and Tod McKay would have to be a good chance to push for league selection after their wonderful efforts in the national under 18 comp.Well done lads!!
Long way to go before anyone should start dancing around as there is much improvement needed to become what we should be.

Great effort especially to fight it right out to the end with Wundke's superb performance. Not a particularly good game but to hang in after a very good start then lose our way it showed some fighting team spirit. Wundke Liddle Gotch Fields plus many others including Bass who really toughed it out.
Need to keep that effort and spirit going.

We looked dead on our legs in that final term, and I really started to wonder where our next goal was going to come from. Great to capitalise on some Sturt blunders, and it was a magnificent kick by Wundke.

Really should have made more of our dominance during the first 1.5 quarters, but a win is a win.
