What Needs to Change Next Season

Post by Premier Panther on Sun Aug 25, 2013 6:17 pm

After the Westies game, had a sleepless night & thinking what needs to be changed to gain back respect (some of these may seem trivial, & rather dramatic but still believe they are vital components to the road to recovery):

1. Change in leadership (Coach/Supporting Staff.....hell even the board)
2. Dedicated full time Skills Coach (Pie in the Sky I know but someone in the ilk of Darren Jarman)
3. Aggressive Recruiting Campaign (Locally & Interstate - Hate to use the Essendon Analogy - But Whatever it takes to bolster our depth, address key position deficiencies)
4. Rebrand - Our brand has been severely damaged & our club logo is at the fore front of this; Dispense with the current logo (Its not bad, but I still liken it to a seal in pain); Go back to our traditional logo - the fearsome panther - it should show our intent
5. Guernsey - Sponsorship is important, but lets face it how often do we question playing for the jumper; Adopt the Guernsey used in the foxtel cup, predominantly the SA monogram & sponsors are still visible, but don't dominate.
6. Player Engagement - How about more interaction with the players with their supporters - they ask for our support, but its a two way street; When I have seen the rare victory no or little engagement with supporters, straight down the rooms to sing the song.
7. Values - Visionary, Can Do, United - Whats the point of having them, if they are not used- Bin em!  How about one word across the club & competition 'RESPECT' - keep it simple!

Just suggestions, & am sure fellow posters can also add value with areas I may have overlooked.

Agree with most of what you have said PP , but if you get rid of the support staff you would have no-one to get everything done that needs to get the team ready for a game not to mention the time that needs to be put in during the week at all the training sessions. Perhaps you could put your hand up I'm sure the extra help wouldn't go astray to help Doug and and his band of merry men !Cool

Roger, fair call....this was a typo my error it was more geared towards changes to the existing coaching structure; By no means was it my intentions to devalue the work by the support staff & volunteers who do a fantastic job & are vital to the club.

Like your thoughts Premier.

On rebranding I completely agree Visionary, Can Do & United are nice words but what do they really mean?

I think our brand should connect more with the local community and I would simplify it to something like:

South Adelaide Football Club "Team for the South" or "We are the South" or "Representing the South" or "Football the South Way" or "Your Club, Our Club, South's Club".

Glenelg has Pride of the Bay and I think it is simple but also stands for something.

I would also use a local lad's picture (say Caleb Daniel) to promote the Football club to clubs within our zone and to the local community in general.

I reckon getting 22 players who want to PLAY FOOTY AS A TEAM would be a good start. Hell! if they are playing well as a team, they can be the PRIDE of anything. The stuff they served up last Saturday was just DUMB and SELFISH. Yes, perhaps The Coach may be a strong contributing factor, but there are always two side to an argument and from what I saw on Saturday the players have a pretty piss poor argument.

PP really agree with your point 5, the guernsey we had during the Foxtel Cup was the best South jumper i've seen in years it sold out brand and identity in spectacular fashion. That's the jumper our club should adopt for next year and every year beyond and for alternative jumper just reverse the colours as per 2011.

I would like to see a bloodless coup occur and John Reid be made the President of the club. I think that would be the first of several good steps forward for us.

love your passion Ben ;but....

There is no president of the SAFC anymore, the role is called Chairman.

The current Board and Chairman are in my opinion doing an excellent job, which has been borne out in the last few weeks when some difficult decisions had to made by the Board for the benefit of the SAFC and the SANFL.

Gota love that BIG & BOLD SA logo displayed proudly, not the small almost insignificant version we have now. That's what i call a great traditional South Adelaide football jumper Very Happy  Let's have that for next season and forever more!

Yes I like the bid SA on our jumper too, reminiscent of the older South Jumpers of the 60s and 70''s. Unfortunately I feel that the SA logo has shrunk due to the growth of commercialism in our game..which is sad.

Initially I was against our clash jumper...but it has grown on me..Surprised .. however somehow its morphed into an AWAY jumper, I notice we wore it against the Eagles a few weeks ago..they are predominately yellow....??

Im a great fan of the Western Bulldogs motto..."Sons of the West" I wonder if we could adopt it as our own..Sons of the South, which could help us to engage our Southern zone..just a thought..Smile
