My team placings with a lot of guesswork from this squad (which is missing about 10 senior players) would be:

F Snook. Hourigan.   Boyd
HF.    Irra    Eddie.   McKay
C.    Dale. Murphy.  Brown
HB.  Veide.  Rose. Fields,
B.   DeVisser Crabb McLeod

R.  Bass.  Ross Rankine

I:  Makepeace, Kerin, Kerin, Gulden, McMahon, Steffe, Durden, Tucker

Good effort by the team yesterday.

Although I didnt see the game the score indicates we were competitive and were missing Liddle, Cross, Brooksby, Gotch, Redigolo, Thewlis, N. Daniel, C. Daniel and Rolfe.

Can anyone tell me where did Boyd play?

Also how did Dale, Rose and Mcleod go?

Very Very Very Early days I know. But, I did like what I saw yesterday. So before anyone gets into me about it just being a trial game and that it's the first game of the season that matters etc. I just want to say again, that I did like what I saw. Cohesion, method, team spirit,  chased hard and I thought you could see that they were working hard to a plan. They looked good.

Winning trial games is not the be all and end all, I did not see the game either, but it does indicate that we were a competitive team on the day with quite a few first inclusions not playing. When I first saw our squad and the Magpies squad I was fearing a 10 goal plus defeat with the AFL listed amongst them. To go down by 2 and a half goals on a first up hit out has to show that we can be right up there with the other teams on the day.

bluecat, your brief summary has given us a feeling that we are on the improve this season, and being competitive, then being able to come out on top at the end of play is what is needed around the club. I will try and get to next weeks trial and see for myself how its going.

Thanks bluecat at the risk of being optimistic as we all tend be each year for the past.... it sound like we are on the right track.
Working hard together to a plan - we might have the right man for the job at last.
I like what I have heard and read so far and look forward to seeing for myself.

Boyd played down back.

Dale played on a wing and I think he has the makings of a good player, fast with a great kick.Time will tell.

Rose played in the middle and was good.

McLeod played well and took on a leadership role. I rate him highly.

The overwhelming thing out of the game was the competitive nature of what was quite clearly a side where players were playing for spots and will find the going for a regular league position far tougher than at any stage in the last five years.

Couldnt make the game but would be interested to know how Durdin went..?? and were there any visible signs of a change in Game plan??

Feedback from a "mad" Port Adelaide supporter at my work who went to the game.

I quote her "They looked good".

Durdin played down back with Crabb, Boyd and Fields. High amount of rotations.

Game plan: Gotch was emphasising at quarter time why we need to stick to it and for the last three quarters it was more evident . IT requires a higher fitness base which I am sure we have and makes for far more attractive football. Time will tell.

You are right Doc "time will tell". I am very interested to see if  our full contingent of A grade players can stick to Gotchie's game plan. Now that is going to be very interesting. Because if they can,  I could be tempted to dabble in the world of optimism

I hope the players are up to it! Surely given some time (and not too long) we can only vastly improve. After all the trials I think we will have a reasonable idea of where we are heading and the style of football to be expected.
