South v West

Post by blueandwhite on Sun Mar 30, 2014 9:46 pm

Really looking forward to this...thankfully trials have finished and now we have a game that counts. A win would be a great step forward for the club after significant change since the last time we played West.
We've copped our share of injuries over the preseason, but I think we have enough depth to cover those.
Im confident of a win and will be there with my ears pinned back.

Will be there keeping a lid on it as I have been heart broken in round 1 too often.

Looking forward to seeing new recruits and game style and hope we can start of the year with a win at home!

Will be there and looking forward to a solid display. Trial form has been pretty good but that counts for bugger all come Saturday evening.
It's only the first game of the season but a win would be just the tonic we need! C'mon fellas put in a big one!!!!

Will also be there, with the fam....decked out in Blue & White.
The real stuff is really here now.
Hoping with a new coach, game style, quality recruits, but most importantly hopefully a rekindled spirit, the players can put in a performance to make us supporters proud.
GO PANTHERS!

Couldn't agree more !!! Smile  Surprised  Smile  Very Happy
Its hard trying to keep a lid on the hopes and expectations after many previous seasons when we have looked great in trials and then faded badly but its straining fit to burst open.
We have seen honest endeavour and a game plan where effort by the whole team to work together and an improvement from players who had previously seemed to have reached a plateau of performance level.
Brad Gotch and his coaching staff are a breath of fresh air giving us hope for success in the new season.

I'm just hoping a win but still can not forget all the build up from round 1 last year versus the Bays and how I thought we were a GIVEN ....need to put the past behind us now.

Desperately need a win at home to start the season on a positive.

I'm sure we can on Saturday night Smile

I am confident but dreading it at the same time - we have been burnt in round 1 before and I really don't want it to happen again! If we approach the game the right way I believe we can win and probably win well. I just hope Gotchy and the coaching staff have them primed for round one come Saturday night. Keeping my fingers crossed here in the UK!

Fitness , Fitness, Fitness. If they can sustain the pressure and run that they applied during the trial games they will take it up to Westies. The only thing that is worrying me is that there will be a lot less interchange this Saturday which will really test the team and as we all know Match day is far tougher than trial game day. Still, I think they can win. GO YOU PANTHERS!

Great result..
Eddy ,Brooksby and Veide have gone to another level. All the recruits looked good; but Brooksby controlled the stoppages all night and was a constant threat when having a spell  up forward.
Eddy..well hes certainly fitter than he was last year..and now hes "the main man" up forward...he looked very good, and when your key forward takes 13 marks- a large number contested, you arent going to lose too many games.
"Darth"  Veide...well, he has the body of an elite AFL midfielder, is immensely strong and can crash through tackles with ease. His attack on the footy and his opponent..well its almost manic- loved his game.
All players have obviously bought in on the new Gotch game plan, and clearly are on the same page and most importantly playing for each other.
if you could be critical...we really should have won by a bigger margin. The 2 middle quarters saw us dominate possession with only moderate reward on the scoreboard.
Still plenty of improvement required..but gee, what a great start to 2014. Cool Very Happy

Just what we needed, a solid start to the season.

The club has done a lot of things right since the end of last year and deserve to get off on the right foot. Well done to all those involved at South Adelaide.

What a great way to kick of the 2014 season than to be there when they played our song at the final siren.

Look forward to the roosters next Saturday.

Great win tonight by the boys we absolutely dominated the game!!!! Was a great feeling watching the last 15 mins knowing we had the win in the bag  Very Happy

Eddy looked fantastic up forward, Dale, Gulden Rose & Mcleod all played good games and our midfield depth is now a lot stronger. Thewlis back to his 2006 best form, Brooksby awesome in ruck and around the ground taking marks.

New game style is a 100% improvement on last year.

The team was the most physical I can remember in a long time and really took it up to Westies. Thewlis bump in the 3rd quarter to send the Westies player into next week was delicious!!!!!!!

Great to win our first home game for the year.

Get around the club people hope we get a huge crowd for the Good Friday game against the bays!!!!!

Fantastic result. Always nervy listening to South on the radio but it sounds like the intensity was there all night and we really should have won by more. Plenty of improvement in the tank I'm sure but it's a great way to start the season. Roll on the Roosters next weekend :-)
