South v Port Adelaide @ Home Sat 2 Aug.

Post by prowler on Tue Jul 29, 2014 11:25 pm

This match against should be played as if it is a Grand Final we are playing to keep in the race for the top 5 lose this match and our slide continues, beat the top team and we will finish the season on a confident high going into the finals.

South should win at home by 13 points.

I dont share your confidence prowler. My enthusiasm to make the long trip to Noarlunga to watch a contrived match is lacking.

Hopefully we can rattle them early and make the initial running, as playing catch up footy against the Power will be difficiult. Veide a loss we could have done without. Cant let pretty boy O'Shea (if he's not the AFL side) sit alone at half back and mop up everything that comes his way as was the case at Alberton.

I gave us next to no chance before but they have numerous quality outs which in theory should helps us. I hope the boys can dig deep and find some confidence to get a win because our form needs a shot in the arm. The run home is tough lose this and our season might be out of our hands and that will more than likely spell the end!!

At this point last season we would've all probably been happy to see us at 7 & 7 at this stage of this year. However the future draw is tough and to miss finals now would be tremendously disappointing.
We have won many quarters this year but some by a small margin and a few by a lot, so it is time now to have faith in each other and make a big statement.
Our best is good enough and we haven't had much luck so far so lets give it our best shot....

Shows what can happen when the boys play 4 quarters. The defensive effort in the 4th was inspiring even if we couldn't grab a major.
I have a few concerns that Darcy Hourigan seems a bit flat. Some of his efforts in the fourth were great to watch but in the earlier quarters he seemed a bit slow to react and chase.

Big disappointment was the small crowd.

Great Win!
And yes Port were always going to challenge in the last.
Defence stood up solid (even without Thewlis)
Lets build the momentum & march towards the finals.

What a fantastic effort from the lads today, loved the way we stood up and held our ground, was the best win I have seen from the boys this season!

That was a Grand Final effort today

Everyone played his part and then gave just that bit more

Our care of the footy and team mate was good to watch

We still have 3 matches to prove we are worthy of playing finals in September.

from todays Sunday rag....

"...The Magpies fielded just nine AFL-listed players — their lowest total for the season — after the late withdrawals of John Butcher (gastro), Darcy Byrne-Jones (sick) and Jake Johansen (rested), and Kane Mitchell and Karl Amon travelling to Melbourne with the Power as emergencies.
Port coach Garry Hocking believed the absences were a factor in the result —..."

No mention in the article that Veide was unavailable and Thewlis was crook and that South have one of the longest injury lists in the league.

Why would they do that.

...The Magpies fielded just nine AFL-listed players — their lowest total for the season —

South fielded 0 AFL players -- our lowest for the season --

Any other valid reasons for losing?

Very true P74 we are missing several players that are a walk up start for us also, to do that with the group we have was sweet as IMO!
