would have thought there would be better medical treatment etc at South if injury correction was his number one priority? haven't seen many AFL players dogged by injury drop back to the SANFL for a year to get their body right before getting back to their AFL career?

Talented kid, maybe there's a reason why he didn't get drafted? Especially when he made the all Australian under 18 team a couple of years ago!! He wouldn't be the first talented player to take the easy way out and he sure won't be the last! I did hear a whisper of another younger player set to leave the club aswell. He's a fringe league player but has the talent to be a very good league player. That's just the nature of footy I suppose! You can't please everyone and if they aren't 100% then find those that are!!

Quote from SAFC news  re Darcy Hourigan "He is hopeful that if he can get his body right on the field, he will return in the following year. He has made that clear.’’

Sounds to me he may return 2016, possibly a mutual decision (?); Kudos to him if this correct.

Josh Thewlis retiring. Has been a favorite of mine over the past 9 seasons. One of the few recruits to stick with the club through thick and (mostly) thin. Will be missed.

***
South Adelaide Co- Captain Josh Thewlis has announced his retirement from SANFL football.

The 30 year-old defender joined the Club in 2006 off North Melbourne’s rookie list, playing 140 League games and kicking 58 goals.

A well respected player, Thewlis spent the last two years as Captain.

In meeting with the Club, Thewlis, who runs his own business as a carpenter, felt the time was right to step away from the SANFL.

General Manager of Football Neill Sharpe said that Thewlis had been a fantastic and loyal servant of the South Adelaide Football Club.

“To join the Club as a recruit and to end up being its Captain says a little bit about his character. He’s had some tough times with injuries, some self-inflicted, but he’s toughed it out and its disappointing that he leaves the game without being able to achieve the ultimate in team success.

“But moving to South Australia has agreed with him and we wish him and his wife Keira all the best in his retirement.”

Thewlis honors included finishing second in the 2007 Knuckey Cup and had top five placings in 2006, 2008, 2009, 2011. He made the Advertiser SANFL Team of the Year in 2011.

Huge loss!! Good luck to him he has been a fantastic player over a long period of time for our club. We now need a couple of quality of forwards and a defender. Every year teams to reinvent themselves and with what has left and is going to leave will be no exception!

Really an exceptional recruit who stayed loyal to our club and was as tough and fearless as they come, fantastic clubman and natural leader who will be missed. I hope he's considering an off-field coaching role as Josh would have plenty to offer for our younger players.

Bit sad when a person of Thoola's experience, capabilities and footy toughness decides to hang up the boots and put the jumper in mothballs.

Hope he can take up an off field spot if one is available.

Will be hard to replace.

Sort of hoped he would stay for 1 or 2 more years.

Top bloke. Stayed with the club when others chased the $$$'s and success.

Best of luck to him.
