Rd 7 v Norwood

Post by B&W63 on Wed May 13, 2015 9:26 am

This is shaping up as a game which gives an indication of where we are really at. There are now 3 hard games ahead and while we have 4 wins and a draw our percentage isn't good, and if we fall away we slip down the ladder. Its obvious the loss of players from last years team has had an effect but gradually others are stepping up and over the next month or so we will see our depth improve.

The boys have been playing well in patches but we haven't really killed sides off and we've been brought back to earth by Centrals hard tackling game stopping our skills and running style. Some our leading lights have become very quiet of late and I'm sure Gotchy would have reminded a few that they need to get their hands on the footy a lot more.

Having said that we match up well usually against Norwood and a strong showing is paramount for everyones confidence for the rest of the season.

Go you mighty Panthers

Final
Norwood 11.13.79
South 9.8.62

Was disappointing, was hopefull of a shock win.
Whilst we threatened during the game, Nwd always seem to have control & keep us at arms length.
Nwd's work rate to run to space & release players was evident, felt we couldn't match them here, & were under constant pressure.
Felt for Crossy gives his heart & soul to South, & rightly got stuck into the playing group after a disappointing first quarter....this fella bleeds Blue & White & heartening to see his passion ,dedication & will for success, a true champion.
Lidds seem to cop a knock in the 2nd quarter & didn't return for the rest of the game....certainly did not help our chances! (Anyone know the extent of his injury)
Eddy took a screamer....definite contender for mark of the year.
Some tough games to come & true test of our worthiness as a finals contender.

Keep playing like this - NO FINALS.

No panic buttons yet but after watching it last night, some cracks are starting to appear that concern me.
We have gone back to be too "handball happy"in defense causing us to turn over the footy. Some of our decision making last night was quite mind boggling !

Thought Matty Rankine took the game on and did a great job. Played his best game for us. Cross battled hard and seemed very frustrated out there last night with a few team mates. McLeod played well and kept trying..
Few players missing in action last night and really need a bit of a kick up the backside. Bit of laziness creeping in and thinking others will do the job for them.
Some players in the league team simply not up to it at present.

Norwood, possession defensive football all night. Pressured our guys till we turned over the ball.

Score did flatter us at the end and I am sure after the games results over the weekend, we will come back down to reality !

Next few weeks critical to show where we are in the competition. :?

Next 2 games will show us where we're at. Definitely need an improvement on the last few weeks, particularly breaking free and creating opportunities inside 50m.
Our best is yet to come, we haven't overcome the player losses from last season and I feel our depth will improve with injuries healing.

Agree B&W63, once Adam Gaulden and Ben Darrou are up and about which will be (hopefully) second half of the season we should come home strong similar to last year.
