Dale, employed in the horse racing industry, broke his leg and had two of his ribs cracked in the serious incident.

Speaking on SANFL Radio, South football manager Neill Sharpe said while Dale was disappointed, he was also thankful his injuries weren’t worse than those he received.

The former Carlton rookie was being considered for selection in the Panthers’ league side to face Adelaide at Hickinbotham Oval on Saturday after being rated best in the Reserves last round.

But now the 23-year-old will spend the next few months weighing up his future both on and off the field as he begins his recovery process.

Sharpe also provides an update on star midfielder Nick Liddle, who is undergoing surgery on the ankle he injured against Norwood in Round 15.

Ruckman Alex Cailotto (fractured collarbone) and Richmond recruit Ben Darrou (groin) have also had their seasons ended early due to injury.
