Round 2 v The Eagles

Post by blueandwhite on Thu Mar 31, 2016 10:13 am

We've been dealt an interesting draw with most of our home games in the first half of the season... So we will need to get some substantial runs on the board early.
This weeks game against the club most of us detest, will be a crucial one. Win and we make a statement- a big one as the Eggles are tipped by many to take the flag this year. It will also see us 2-0 and off to a flyer .
Rose's absence is a blow as he has been very good across halfback and a real steadying influence on others. I think the game will be won and lost in the midfield and by whoever can give their forwards some clean delivery. Goldsworthy, Jarrard and Poole are critical in this area for the eggles and their influence will have to be negated.
Our defence will be stretched a bit and Crabby ,De Visser and Tom Fields will have their hands full. We will need a big game from Bassy too as Redden can have a huge influence if he's allowed to run forward.
I think we can make Hickinbotham a fortress and get over the line here with Eddy kicking a bag,we'll win by 11 pts.
Go Panthers!

Yeah B&W this will be a tough game, X Gotch to came back in but who to drop? Sam Overall was down last week but his height and marking will be important. Those three players we love the most in the Eagles are also in good form, counter those decent chaps (Evil or Very MadEvil or Very Mad ) and we're in with a big chance.

Basically, we need to make a statement on the rest of the competition that we are the "real deal"in 2016 and beat the Eagles. These are the sides we need to beat....the top sides and not be a mid-ladder side.

Fear our defense will be tested here. Need to stop the 3 amigos ($$$$) somehow.......

Have not beat the Eagles for ages at our home turf and feel its our time.

South by 2 goals.

Full Time
South: 14.12 - 96
Eagles: 8.5 - 53

Wow what a satisfying win!
Our attack on the ball & opposition relentless. Our tackling was a real feature.
After a slow start, we were completely dominant.
Plenty to get excited about, but realise still it's only round 2 & still much work to be done.
Hard to name best players, everyone did their bit, probably stand outs for me, Liddle, Rankine, Fields, Daniel & Gulden.
Real fighting spirit Gotch has instilled in this group.
You little ripper! Feeling very proud tonight.

Gotta be happy with that start.

After Glenelg's demolition of West, our narrow win against them last week looks all the more better.

Goal Kickers: S. Overall 3, N. Liddle 2, C. Hitchcock 2, B. Eddy 2, N. Daniel, E. Irra, M. Rankine, B. Haren, A. Gulden
Best Players: N. Liddle, M. Rankine, B. Haren, T. Fields, B. Seccull, A. Gulden

Very good win after a slow start, kicking 13 of the final 16 goals. Eagles got a fast start with some help from the men in green, but South clawed their way back into the game late in the first and never looked back. Surprised Crabb and Bass weren't named in the best. Liddle the standout, one of Haren's better games for the club, didn't have too many passengers.

First time I've seen the new OOB rule. I recall reading an article from the SANFL when the rule was implemented saying the average from the games they surveyed in 2015 was no more than 3 or 4 instances, which seemed low. The Eagles gave us a dozen freebies playing a very indirect brand of footy.

Promising signs. A long way to go.

Yes great win - really impressed by the team defence tackling and intelligent ball movement were particularly good.
A slow start again but this was an important game to play well and win against a good side who have beaten us at home many times with 3 players who we love to hate.
Their style surprised me but it was under some real pressure and we are making a statement if we can play like that regularly.
