Round 8 - South v Central

Post by Choaty on Tue May 17, 2011 6:00 am

4 from 4 at home under lights? Is it doable against last years Premiers? Regardless, I think we will see a much tighter game than the last time we met at Elizabeth...

After missing last week's match, I'll be there with bells on this week!

Roll call?!

will be there for sure. I've got a good feeling about this game.
Its going to be wet, the game will be a slog; if we can produce the same committment as last week and reward our hard work with some more accurate goalkicking we'll be in it up to our ears.

Go Yee-oh's. Very Happy

Been a long time since our reserves have talented league players like Lyons, Rolfe, Turner, Perry, Talia putting real presure on the league side. Throw in big Adam Cockshell back next week and things are looking up...at last!
However, a HUGE game this Saturday night, only 4 quarters of relentless toughness will suffice, we owe Centrals big time, our time has come!

Yes agree - it's always very healthy for any Club to have competition amongst players for senior spots

Cook may play after all it seems - he will apparently be emergency for the cows and Riley is travelling emergency

It's all there for the taking.. Home ground, heavy deck, under lights all a bit foreign to the dogs. Panthers at night!! It's pay back time.

South had a red hot go, but the class of the dogs shone through in the end. A string of 3 or 4 quick goals late in the 2nd term, and our inability to even post one major in the 3rd were telling factors. The dogs did a great job of absorbing South's fwd entries early in the 3rd. The margin blew out a bit late, which was a little disappointing.

South had more inside 50s apparently, according to the RPH boys. Unfortunately Wundke couldn't get into it, and when he did get his hands on the footy his kicking let him down (not for the first time this season). Ainger did a few nice things. Encouraging to see that Rolfe kicked half a dozen in the twos, as he should be the perfect foil for the two bigger men.

I probably had Thewlis as our best. Made a couple of blues, but is improving week to week and it's great seeing him injury free at the moment. Otten looked a long way off an AFL call up. As the RPH boys harped on constantly, both he and Cook had a fetish for running in circles and handballing to a flat-footed teammate inside of kicking the damn thing. To Cook's credit he did start to break some lines as the match wore on but his decision making remained questionable.

Thomas again hurt us.

Port @ Alberton next week. Critical that a) we turn up to play away from home b) and in the daylight. We've been poor at doing that this season, round 1 excluded.

Losing to the standout team for the last generation by 6 goals on face value anyway would seem a reasonable performance. I'd be pretty sure that the coach and players are not too thrilled with the result though. We certainly had plenty of possession and plenty of opportunities to really put some pressure on the doggies. Our first quarter was excellent but once again we failed to hurt the opposition on the scoreboard and reward ourselves for some good work.
Central are the measuring stick and they really feasted on our skill errors in the second half. They are at the level we need to be and we need to strive to get there by improving our skills and ability to hit targets with hand and foot under pressure. Our competitiveness and fierceness at the stoppages have improved markedly since the westies game and it needs to continue this week against Port.
